The Nilgiri Hills (The Blue Mountains) got their name from the purplish blue flowers of ‘neelakurinji’(Strobilanthes kunthiana) that blossoms only once in 12 years. This rare spectacle could be viewed, this year – 2012, from September onwards, in Ebbanad, Bikku Pathi Mund villages, located 5 kilometres away from Ooty, Karnataka and at Idukki near Munnar, Kerala.
